My little princess is growing up so fast. It seems like just yesterday she was learning to walk and talk. Daddy put together her new desk last night and she was working on her handwriting for hours tonight. She even did her own book report by writing down the title of a book on a piece of paper to show her teacher. It makes my heart swell just to watch her grow and learn:)

So yesterday was Kayla's first day of Kindergarten. I could not be more proud of her. She has turned into such an independent, smart, talented, and fun girl. I could not believe how calm and cool she was yesterday. This is the first time she has ever attended formal school. We have been blessed having our Di Di come to our home and watch the girls everyday. I think I had more anxiety that she did. Kayla was cool as a cucumber heading out into the world all by herself. She had a smile on her face and practically ran to the bus when it pulled up. I have to share some of the belly laughs I had when she came home to tell us about her day. Her baby sister was playing with a ladybug and took it inside the house. Kayla stole the bug right out of her hand....I proceed to scold Kayla, "Do not steal your sister's bug". Kayla responds, "Mom, I have not been able to play with bugs all day!" I guess she had a point. Then when she was telling us about how many times they had to stand in a single file line the teacher would say, "Boy, girl, boy, girl" every time. Kayla says, "Why can't it ever be 'girl, boy, girl, boy" Who knew she was a feminist? Too funny. Zach and I had a real good laugh about that one! Well tomorrow night I will be dropping my sweet little baby (ehem, or nearly 5-year-old) Kayla off for her first ever Dance Recital Dress Rehearsal. She will be full out dressed and makeup and I can't even stay and watch.....NO PARENTS ALLOWED! She is so excited I can not even tell you. She is required to have curls and makeup. Today I ran into Walgreen's and got some rollers to attempt curly hair. She was very patient and I felt like a pageant Mom rolling her fine little hair into the curlers. We left them in for about an hour and it came out GREAT! Ok, I did not get a picture of the actual curls....I am saving that for the full costume. I am not very happy about the no video or picture taking rule for the recital, but they will have a photographer and they are professionally video taping, for a fee of $25 to see my angel dance for 1 min 38sec. You know I will buy the stupid thing, how could I resist. Don't worry, I'm sure to get plenty of pictures of her all decked out:)

Just to give you all a little update on what I will be up to this summer: I am going to take an online class! I have never done anything like this before, and I am so excited. I can't wait to head to the craft store sometime this weekend and get all my supplies for this super cool Summer Camp

This is going to be such a fun project. I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything handmade and this will be a chance to let my own creativity flow. Learning new things is so much fun! I hope everyone is having a great summer!

We tried out the camper for the first time this weekend and it RAINED the entire time. We did not let it stop our fun though! We managed to try everything out and the camper ROCKS! The girls loved it and they slept like perfect little babies both nights. I can't wait for all the memories we will have with our "Space Wrangler" (that's the name I came up with for the camper). I did not wake up feeling well....

I had to leave work early yesterday because my neck was suddenly sweaty and I got dizzy and foggy......I felt terrible fast! I woke up this morning with the same strange symptoms...my throat felt as if it was closing in on me. I also indulged on some Morel Mushrooms on Monday that were not properly soaked and cleaned. Note to self: watch out for the wild mushrooms! I am better today, and back to myself...but whoa that was not fun. This little picture below is by Kayla of our new camper. I am putting it into a frame and we are going to hang it in the camper. I did a little tutorial next to her and this was her version (better than mine)! What an artist:) I took a couple of pictures of them today too...

Wow, I've been a bad little blogger lately. My laptop was down for awhile and I'm too lazy to go into my MESSY basement and work. Speaking of my messy basement, I will be spending the entire day tomorrow cleaning and organizing that mess. My neighborhood garage sale is May 1st and I am determined to have tables of goods to sell. With the girls and the amount of stuff we have collected it is truly time for some spring cleaning. Hopefully tomorrow I will be blogging about how clean and organized things are:) Plus, one man's trash is another mans treasure.....which brings me to the next reason I have been so absent from blogging. We sold our pop up camper this week and bought a super duper upgrade! We started looking on Craig's List and found a couple of diamonds in the rough, but this one takes the cake. Quite a story to this camper, it's actually totaled and has a salvaged title (NOT GOOD FOR LICENSING). We went after church last Sunday to take a look at it over an hour away in IL. My Dad had to go with us the next day to be sure that the camper was FIXABLE. He was so proud that we were willing to go through a little red tape to get a good deal. And a good deal is what we got. We bought this camper for nearly half the price it would sell for and we have minor repairs (thanks Dad) to make it better than new. In the last picture you can see the damage in the front corner. Other than that....IT IS PERFECT! We have room for our little family to have a vacation home on wheels! We will be going to the Farm next weekend to break her in. I can't wait to decorate and put our little touch on everything! I want to hang some photos of the girls on the walls and there are endless things I want to get that will stay in the camper, like pots and pans, plastic dinnerware, kitchen accessories, towels, little stick on the wall soap dispensers. The list is truly endless. We will have that baby full in no time at all. I can't wait to have so many adventures in our new Beauty!

Night at the Ritz!

Every year my Husband's family is involved in this spectacular fundraiser event for ECH (Every Child's Hope). ECH started out as an orphanage in St. Louis that was named as the Evangelical Children's Home, and has evolved into an amazing organization that reaches out to youth in need in so many ways. Zach, his brother, and Dad have donated their efforts to creating something to showcase for the theme of the event. This year Tiffany's Jewelry sponsored the event, along with multiple others, to create a truly magical night at the Ritz Carlton in Clayton, MO.

The boys made the big blue boxes (which Tiffany's wanted) and the letters HOPE (very sparkly)
You could purchase a box for $100 and all proceeds benefit ECH....there was a pair of Tiffany's earings in one and a necklace in another. The rest had a really pretty paper weight (which i won)

Senior Citizens, Lobsters, & Mustaches

My Dad turned 55 yesterday and he is officially a Senior Citizen! He is the coolest Dad is the world and this trip to Florida is so special because we get to spend it with my family:) To celebrate, we cooked gigantic lobster tails and had a little party at the house. When I figure out the video stuff, I have the cutest videos the girls dancing with Pop (my Mom's Dad). This is a look into our little Lobster Party:

Florida is GREAT! We are only on day 2 right now and this is Spring Break 2010! I have taken lots of videos and pictures..... So at the Home Show Mommy got to pick up a Vertical Garden!!!!! Kayla helped me plant a tiny little herb garden. I can't wait to do my "Julia Child" omlettes and add some fresh basil. (*note: when I mention "Julia Child" I tend to talk in that super cool voice for a good 10-12 words) I also posted a little pic of me with the new do! The girls both had to visit the pediatrician this week. Kayla is getting ready to start Kindergarten this summer and she needs to be updated on her State required vaccinations that I have been able to avoid until now. Bummer. Paige also got two shots. FUN! Paige was typical.....screaming as soon as her doctor touched her. I really don't even think she noticed the shots because she was so upset about the rest. She is 22lb (40%) and 75% on height. Healthy as could be. Kayla was sooooo brave. She did not cry at all. Her lips did curl down into a little frown right before the shot, but she was such a big girl about it. I told her we could go shopping and get her some clothes to take to Florida in a couple weeks. We have been at odds about what she wants to where lately and I thought it would be best to let her have some say in the clothes she chose. So the end result you will see below. Probably not what I would have picked, but she did look cute and all four things only cost $35 at Macy's plus each thing she picked mixes and matches. I do like that, whether I am ready for her Independence or not:) The handmade hat she is wearing was given to her by a friend. I had to throw in a picture of Paige from today with her static hair, she needs a haircut.

Ok this all started with a bright idea to get "healthy".... if I was better at link-ups I would give you my recent posts.....but if you really care about me you will know! So Poor Pitiful Pearl, who I totally heart, BTW. gave me a recipe for a green juice and book: Raw Food Detox Diet. Ok, I have read the book and i sort of want it to be my bible.
I have been pooping like a machine because of this stuff. WOW the power of raw clean out fruits and veggies is amazing. It is a true cleanser....I have never seen this color or amount of shit coming out of my body. ever. b4. Holy crap...no pun there (swear) well I am going to stick with the plan for now.....;P

I have been so busy lately with life in general. Every night of the week is filled up with running here and there. This week we finally refinanced our house, and I got the taxes done! Whew, crazy week. I still somehow managed to take a little time to myself last night and get crafty. I have been so inspired recently by a few bloggers who craft anything from baby blankets to extravagant dresses made out of up cycled vintage clothing. I always love something handmade and I typically buy most of my handmade clothing. I really like to buy new handmade clothing to wear to concerts, bit of a bad habit I think;) Well, Saturday night we are going with a fun group of friends to see Gov't Mule and the Pageant, and I have been itching to buy something. A dear friend of mine just returned my sewing machine, and I decided I would make something to wear Saturday night!!!

I totally up cycled the cutest pair of jeans! They turned out amazing and I can't wait to wear them. It was a bit of a challenge, but I completed the entire project in about 5 hours and did not stop until I was done. I knew that if I laid it down there was slim to no chance of finishing the pants by Saturday. I did put down a bottle of wine while crafting, and that can lead to lots of upside down and inside out seam ripping, but the final product still turned out adorable. I even hand sewed a few embellishments on at the end to finish the look. I am very proud of myself for starting and finishing all in one night, and I can't wait to wear them Saturday. Made by ME!

When I was a little girl...all I can remember is wanting to grow up and be something incredible......I played piano, but that was not "cool" to me at the time. Now that I am 31 years old, I wish I would have stayed with it. Most of my friends played sports and my family was not really into that, so when I got into high school I dabbled a little, but nothing extraordinary. Kayla is interested in so many things right now, and I LOVE IT! I know one day she will pick something and excel, but for now she can do anything her heart desires! But when is it too much? The other day she asked about Ice Skating...Really?

Well, for now she is having so much fun and I am having too much fun watching her grow into the most confident, strong, free-willed lady I ever met!

Okay I am finally going to my stylist to get a new do. It has been a really long time since I have vistited her. I love change as you will see in the series of photos below. I have rocked a lot of dos in my time that is for sure. This time around I think I am going to shoot for a "very" layered shag that resembles a mullet. But a rockstar mullet no less! I have extrememly thin hair and I think that shaggy do will work, but I will have to let my stylist make that decision for sure. NOt sure about color...I might chunck in some lighter colors in a dramatic not so highlighted way. To Raw or Not to Raw

That is the question. I have recently been feeling a lot of not so good things. Let me list a few in no particular order for you: fat, lazy, sluggish, bored, slow, gross, toxic, sick! As most of you would certainly agree with me, none of these above mentioned adjectives are conducive to a healthy lifestyle. This is why I would like to make some changes. Like a lot of people I was thinking with the new year I would start my "New Year's Resolution" phase and get exercising and eating healthy to just fall into place and become my life! Wow, that sounds really nice and thanks to all the infomercials and gimmicks that are offered to go along with the new year it will be a piece of cake (bad analogie considering no cake will be allowed) Yeah right! That is so hard to do. I am an absolute creature of habit and nothing more. It is so hard to consciously eat right and keep up a routine that is completely active at all times. Frankly, I like to sit on my couch, open a bottle of cheap wine, start the DVR programs rolling, and put my laptop in position to FULL BLOWN COUCH POTATO EXTRAORDINAIRE! There I said it, that's honest I am feeling lazy because I AM lazy. You would think this is an easy thing to fix.....just get off you lazy ass and do something different. Not so easy my friends.

In an effort to find new tactics to start my resolution I have been doing a little research. I need to teach myself to be healthier, education is a powerful thing! I read about people changing their life by diet, and I don't mean fad diet, I mean real diet....as in everything that goes into your body and being conscious of reading labels (which I never do) of the food you consume. For someone like me this would not be that simple. As I mentioned before about my Creature of Habit problem, it is not like I will just go home and throw out all the bad food and go to Whole Foods with an open mind and stock up. First of all my family would absolutely freak out! Second of all I would just stand there staring at the pantry and the fridge like, "what the hell is all this weird stuff"! I am actually a really good cook, I love to prepare fresh homemade meals for my family and they are generally happy to eat it :) I just don't have a lot of recipes that don't contain starch, carbs and heavy sauces ( umm yummy my mouth just started watering....SEE!).

In my research for healthy living I keep coming to the same topic of whole foods and RAW foods. To me, raw food does not sound appetizing? I think of it this way.....let's take carrots for example. Raw carrot vs. buttery, seasoned, warm, soft, cooked carrot. Okay really, if you can choose the raw you are seriously something. That something is what I am trying to figure out how to BE!!!!!! One of my favorite blogs to read is Poor Pitiful Pearl. She is a holistic, organic artist, wife, and mother of sorts. Not to put labels, but those are not to shabby in the label department if you ask me. She does these really awesome Green Drinks. She is a fan of the Raw Food Detox Diet and she seems to be pretty centered and super HOTT to boot. I know that there is no way on God's green earth I can give up all the cooked foods that I really enjoy, but I need to make small changes and that may mean giving one meal a day to the RAW FOOD GODS to get me started on this challenge. I recently emailed her to ask her advice on what type of Green drink to try and this is the recipe that she gave me:

OK, first off where do I get KALE? Anyone? Whole Foods is no where near me and I don't know where else that would even be available. I called my Grandmother who I know got a juicer that is still in the box for a gift about 2 or 3 years ago. Thank you Grandma for letting me borrow your Jack LaLanne Juicer this week ( I pick up on Thursday)!

So, please send me your good vibes and your positive thoughts on what this could do for me. I would love to hear if you have any good raw or whole food recipes too! I really want to make a diet and lifestyle change that will improve ME, without changing ME. Well, I wouldn't mind if my dress size changed a little bit. That would be okay :)

I really need to start back up here at the blog world. I get so caught up, keeping up with others blogs I need to focus on my own. I have so many ideas to blog about and I have a laptop at home now, so maybe this week I will get on it. Times are pretty busy at my house right now....Mon= Zach's soccer, Tues= Mom's Yoga, Wed= Kayla's riding lesson, Thur= Kayla's dance, Sat= Kayla's soccer. WHOA! Zach is also working hard on his graduate program and that takes a lot of computer time in the evening, this might be why I am finding it hard to blog right now. Don't you worry your pretty little heads though. In between my new workout schedule and this crazy life I am adapting to right now I am going to revamp my blog and I have some great pictures I have been working on with my new LIGHTROOM 2 editing software. Thanksmas

This year in Chicago was a blast as always. We had a pretty uneventful 6 hour drive to Marilyn and Tom's gorgeous house in Bull Valley, just north of Chicago. This is what we call Thanksmas. Our annual get together for the Thies family, a little after Thanksgiving and a little before Christmas, hence; Thanksmas! It's so nice to be able to come together in one place with our entire family. There are enough beds for everyone to sleep and stay in one place. This allows the children to romp and play and the adults to have fun all at the same time. We do a gift exchange for the kids and the adults do a really fun rob-your-neighbor style gift exchange. My girls wore their cute little dresses for the Saturday Celebration!This is Kayla after she opened her adorable matching Barbie and Me cheerleader outfit. She basically wore this for the rest of the weekend. Never mind the fact that is was about 20 degrees outside with SNOW on the ground.

This is Paige playing in the snow for the first time ever. She was so cute. These boots were making her walk a little stiff and she bent over to touch the snow for the first time and did a nice face plant. We were all laughing so hard, she look sort of like a little turtle stuck with her arms flailing about. I know this is a little mean, but at least I did not take a picture. Plus, she didn't even cry. She loved every minute of the snow.

So here is the view I get from my couch when I am watching TV. I love this. I am so excited about having our decorations up so early this year! Christmas is so special this year with the girls being older. Especially Kayla, she is so excited about the holiday. She thought Thanksgiving was going to be Christmas this year. She woke up really early and comes in our room Thursday morning.......(whispers)"Mom....can we wake up Paige? She will be so excited about today" I reply, "NO...DO NOT WAKE YOUR SISTER UP!!!!!". Kayla: "ok Mom". So she goes and lays in front of Paige's bedroom door and waits. I fall asleep until I hear her....."Kayla. Are you kicking the wall?"

She is so cute, I see her laying there and she thinks we are going to run out to get lots of presents. I had to take a moment to explain that this is only Thanksgiving where we see our family and eat lots of turkey. This is something we are thankful for. I think she was a little disappointed, but when I told her we would see her cousins she perked right up.

This weekend is our annual trip to Chicago for what we call Thanksmas..stay tuned for a blog:)

Learning Something New

So I decided to try something new:) Knitting! It started out a little shaky, but I think after my "ugly" ear warmer I am actually getting better. And......IT'S FUN! Instead of sitting around twisting my hair all day (I might add this is pretty much what I do every day all day) I can create something with my twirls.

The perfect thing to do at the Farm while the men are out on a hunt:

Okay here it goes.....
This weekend I certainly did not make fun of my husband for getting "buck fever" and shaking so bad that he missed his giant trophy buck...TWICE!

In a fog of "Deer Season Drinking" Saturday night I did not "forget" my dogs outside in the pouring rain all night! They would never stalk and kill a opossum and leave their trophy in the yard for all to see, as my payback.

There is also no way I would give my 1 year old 3 BOTTLES this weekend to sooth her crankiness. I so did not give the babysitter trouble last week for giving in to this same temptation. I would never pretend that I was stronger then her.

When we got home late last night after a terrible drive in the rain, it was not me who crawled directly into bed to watch "Desperate Housewives" and fell asleep:)

Paige has a new method of asking to be picked up. Instead of the normal arms in the air with a squeal, she can now balance enough to stand up slowly and then reach her arms in the air with the squeal. I guess she is just that many inches closer, so she thinks this method works better. I was trying to get her to do this for Daddy in the kitchen last night and.......SHE TOOK HER FIRST STEPS!!!! Yay, three little Frankenstein steps right to me. The best part was Mommy and Daddy were totally watching when it happened. How rare is that? She did it again this morning for the babysitter! It won't be long before she is chasing Kayla around, yikes.

Tonight was a real treat............ Kayla decided she wanted to help with dinner. The outcome was pretty sucessful! Here are the pictures to prove this (Dinner= delicious pork steaks with Praire Dust seasoning from Lone Star, "fresh" sweet corn from the Farmer's Market, some noodles that Kayla made & some Tomatoes from Di Di's garden!). Life is full of them, burdens that is. Heavy burdens that are sometimes hard to cope with. For the last couple of months I've had overwhelming anxiety and I let these burdens take over my life. I have always considered myself the eternal optimist. You know.....the glass is half full, there is always a bright side to everything. Lately, that whole eternal part is fading. I have such a heavy weight in my chest for things that would have fluttered by in my past. I miss that girl, and I know the people I love miss her too. I don't want her to get so far out of my reach that it affects my relationships, but at the same time I don't know how to coax her back and push away this negative person that I feel I am becoming. Sometimes it helps to do this blog, in fact, in this blog world that I have entered, I see others struggling with everyday burdens. I read how they relate to my situations and how they struggle at times to find resolve in sometimes unresolvable journeys. The older you get, the more complex life becomes. I guess it does not help that the world we are living in just seems to be more and more depressing everyday. I am such a product of what media and television and technology has created, and this is something I am not proud of at all. I want to be better, I want to live simpler, I want to ignore the negativity that resonates from my TV. But, I want to see the season finale of True Blood and see what celebrities are doing and wearing all at the same time. I want to wear recycled clothing, I want to bake from scratch and have my own garden. But again, I want my recycled clothes to come from expensive shops like poorpitifulpearl.com and I want to go out to eat and pay too much. Where does the happy medium fit in here? Today I emailed my husband about what a terrible day I am having and how under appreciated I am for the hard work that I do at my job and I write to him: Sometimes life is too hard for me, when did I stop being the optimist? I want her back, and I know everyone in my life does too. This is not me, who writes that kind of stuff? I read the Nie Nie Dialogues at http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/ and she motivates me to see the positive in life. My problems seem insignificant to others, but they are my problems and they are important to me. She has an amazing life and and amazing struggle of survival that sends me to the moon and back when I read her story! I guess we learn to take things one day at a time. We have to learn to teach our children that life is full of ups and downs (whether we are down or not). Life is too short to wear our worries on our sleeve and to Hell with these burdens. I am going to try to be the best Nikki I can be for my family, my loved one's and most importantly for ME!

I am ready for fall to start, but the only problem I am facing at this point is the dreaded "baby weight" still hanging around. After my first pregnancy I had no problem losing the weight, it seemed to just disappear after a pretty short time. I did go up one whole dress size, but that was okay with me. I looked at it as an opportunity to do a little wardrobe revamp and I could still squeeze into most of my favorite pieces. Fast forward to pregnancy number two and things are not quite as simple. Now don't get me wrong, my efforts to lose the weight are nothing to write a cheer about, but I have barely lost any weight since Paige was born (NINE MONTHS AGO!!!!) and I'm at my breaking point. As the fall weather is right around the corner, I started to go through my pre-Paige winter clothes and they are like 2 whole dress sizes down from my weight now.........UGG! I have never in my life experienced this problem. Growing up I was teased for being the skinny girl and now I long to have that 12 year old boy frame back. Okay, so not quite that far. But, for goodness sake there has to be some medium! No pun intended, but I am tired of buying the size large. The worst part about finding the motivation to actually do something and stop complaining is my body image is HIGH. WTF! I don't feel uncomfortable in my skin, so I am having a hard time commiting to the new workout plan. So, I have found a new motivation. For those who know me, I am a shop-aholic and love nothing more than buying clothes for myself and the girls. This year, instead of going out and getting all new clothes in size "BIG" I am going to treat myself to................FITNESS! I know I will be energized, less stressed, positive, healthier and best of all I am going to lose this weight that does not belong on my body. I will fit into those size 8 jeans again. I will wear those cute little tops that make my now post baby belly make people say, "are you having another one?". Note to those people, unless you are sure....DON"T ASK> For the last 3 weeks I have been extremely diligent about exercise. I have started to walk, run, bike and strength train for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. I am writing this blog as a reminder to myself that this is a goal, a goal that can be achieved and will be achieved. Maybe by putting it out there, cyberspace can also hold me accountable. So next time you see me grabbing for the bottle of ranch to pour on my pizza, FOR God's SAKE.......STOP ME! I have to say my favorite, yet hardest exercise right now is biking. I take the girls along and do about 4 miles at a time (maybe more when I am ready). They are a heavy load those girls:

Colorado Trip

The entire Fettig family just spent the last week in Colorado attending a Beer & Bluegrass festival in Keystone! It was quite the trip indeed. I was a little stressed about a 15 hour car ride with the girls, but I have to say they were both about as perfect as could be in the car. Kayla entertained herself with toys and talking and Paige pretty much watched her sister. That was all she needed to stay happy. Thank the Lord! We arrived in Denver late on Thursday evening and Grandma and Grandpa were gracious enough to watch the girls in the hotel room while we went to a bar to visit our good friend Zummy:We got the chance to meet his girlfriend Melissa and she was super sweet and we had a great time. We wished they could meet us in Keystone on Saturday, but they went out of town for a wedding and could not make it. Maybe another year:( We met up with the rest of the Fettig Clan: Jeremy, Jackie, Dylan, Steph, Mark, Jack, and Sammy on Friday morning and headed into Keystone, this was the view from our condo deck:

Just stunning. We settled in and started to party. The next day we headed out to breakfast with the family and then to the Beer and Bluegrass Festival which was so much FUN!!!!! For $30 they give you a 3oz. tasting glass and there are about 50 different Colorado breweries that set up tents and pour at free will!! YUM! I found lots of new beers that I love and some that I do not Love:( The kids loved the trip and the music certainly kept them entertained:

Paige and Kayla were so good all weekend and Paige got carried around in her little backpack that Anrazel and N from http://companiontothewind@blogspot.com/ bought for Kayla when she was just a wee little sprite! She was so darn happy in that thing.

Now here comes the drama.....you know we could not have an entire family vacation without some form of drama, and ohhh did we ever. Late Sunday night all the kids go to bed and Kayla with her sweet little smile gets a kiss goodnight from Daddy:
Then about 6am the next morning she awakes to projectile vomiting all over the top bunk bed she was sleeping in. Now I must preface this part with the fact that Paige was vomiting up like a real person on Wednesday morning before we left STL and Steph (Zach's sister) was sick as a dog for the 1st two days of CO, laying in bed and poopin and pukin'. THen both Dylan and Paige got the runs in the diapers for about two days..... I mean up the back and out the sides business. GROSS, sorry for the gorey details:) SO poor little Kayla got the flu and vomited about 14 times on Sunday. SHe was such a trooper, every time she would tell me ahead of time and do her best to stay a party girl and puke when necessary. I was so scared for her. She did not go to the bathroom for over 24 hours and when I called the doctor they told me by Monday morning if she had not urinated to take her to an emergency room. Now I am crying at this point. My normally spunky little girl was bound to the stroller and did not even have the energy to walk. Needless to say, no pictures were taken on Sunday which was going to be the family shot, oh well. So Monday we were starting to trek home and Kayla was feeling better. She did vomit all over me in bed (covered my entire hair, pillow, and wall), then Daddy wakes up vomiting. So all the way to "almost" Topeka, KS we had one kid screaming of boredom, one shitting her pants cause she finally ate real food and could not control her bowel, and one Dad stopping every 30 min on the side of the road to vomit. SUPER!!! This is officially a true, memorable family vacation. We all made it home, and thank GOD I have all the great photos from the beginning of the trip. I am so happy to be home, let's put it that way:)

So I have spent most of my computer time on a project for Kelli's wedding lately and with that, two active sugar pies and a Daddy................it's been awhile. Without further a do I must turn back time to Kayla's first soccer function:

So she is finaly in soccer at St. Peter's Vetta indoor and she loves it so much. All the pics that I took are so blury, but that is because girl is quick. I think I have these same pictures of Zach on 35mm film from college. I was the photographer for the Culver Year Book ( Iknowcool ) and she looks good! I was pretty proud and I'm pretty sure this guy was pretty proud too...........

My little sister is graduating Vet tech school on Saturday. I am so proud of her. She never really liked to go to school when she was young and I think she had a hard time deciding to take this challenge on. She has outdone herself, and graduated on time with really good grades! She walks the stage on Saturday morning and my entire family will be there to see her. What an achievement.

We are 10 years apart in age and for most of our life growing up we were as close as sisters can be with that age gap. Over the last couple of years, Whitney has transformed into a fun, charismatic woman and we are closer than we have ever been. We have so much in common and I would not trade our time together for anything. She is one of my best friends and I love to share my thoughts, ideas, and fun times with her. I hope she continues to be ambitious, and I wish her all the best. Spread your wings and fly little sis! Love, Nik

Corporate Naps

I will start by saying, my Mother's Day was wonderful. I got to see all the Mothers in my life, and enjoyed my daughters to the fullest. Though it is hard to complain about life, I am so damn busy!

Let me just mention yesterday for example; Wake up feed children, go to work until about 4pm, Nuclear Medicine Meeting from 4-6pm, ride Metro home, start laundry, go for run, plant more flowers in yard (thanks to Aunt Tonya for the Mother's Day gift of plants), feed Paige, more laundry, make dinner (mind you, it is almost 8:45 at this point), eat, put kids to bed, enjoy a few glasses of wine, clean up laundry and kitchen, BED. I don't think my head hit the pillow until 11:45pm and the only time I really sat down was to eat and digest, UGG. Sadly this is about the most relaxing night of the week I get.

I have always been a really busy person. We are rarely ever home during the week, which is why the nights at home become mass chaos for me. I find myself having a much harder time coping with the business when I have 2 kids, and nice weather sometimes fuels the Craz. I get to work and have a hard time focusing due to exhaustion. Which finaly brings me to my point here, I think we need corporate naps: http://www.portfolio.com/executives/features/2007/09/19/Napping-Centers-for-Executives THese people have the right idea. This would help not only the working mother, but everyone who has a busy life and can't find the time to sit still during the day. Even if I had the chance to go home in the middle of the day, or early in the afternoon..........like I'm going to be able to lay down and rest, RIGHT!

So we made it to the farm this weekend, and it was a total blast! We fit lots of activities in. Zach did a little Turkey Hunting, we celebrated Derby Day, hiked, fished, and just spent time shootin' the shit with friends and family! Kayla is getting so old, and it's times like this that really make me realize what a little girl she is turning into......SO FAST! Our friends came up on Saturday and we planned to go on a hike, so Kayla of course wanted to join along. This terrain is not bad, but in my mind I thought no way a 3 year old would be able to keep up, and no one wants to carry her, that's for sure. When we started to leave she ran in the house crying and pouting about not being able to join us. I felt so terrible and so did Zach, we decided to let her join us. She did such a great job! I was so proud of her, the only time she needed to be carried was down the steep hill, other than that she kept right up fighting through the tall grass and all:

What a big girl she was, she did do a little complaining the next day about her ankles hurting, but so did Mommy! Paige had fun too, she got to play in the exersaucer that is at the farm and she loved it:

Kayla got to play with her new Gator that she got for Christmas this year, and we needed to weight it down a little so she could get some traction............maybe this was not the best thing to use, but it sure did make for a cute picture.

It was such a fun weekend, and I can't wait to go back again:)

Bitching about my foot AGAIN, UGG

So during my last pregnancy I developed a condition in my right heel that is know as plantar fasciitis. Being that I am no athlete by any stretch of the word, I have never delt with an injury. Let me tell you this sucks and I am being a big baby about it!

Gaining all the weight from the pregnancy is the cause, and now I want that weight to "GO AWAY". Not so easy.........I am trying to eat better (better than me that is) and that does not seem to work, so I want to exercise which I know works for me and I actually enjoy it. Well, the damn heel problem is preventing me from doing so. I finally went to a podiatrist to seek help for the problem. Basically all he could tell me was exactly what I did not want to hear......."stay off it". So how am I supposed to loose weight, which will help with the plantar fasciitis, if I can't exercise. Crap, Crap, Crap. I took anti inflammatory drugs and babied my foot for about 6 weeks and it seems about 90% better.

Enter present week..........I went to Grandma's last night to try on my dress for friends wedding and get alterations. I look like a stuffed sausage, a pretty stuffed sausage, don't get the wrong idea but the damn thing barely zipped up. YIKES. I do have two months to the wedding but still depressing. So I decide to go for a short, easy two mile jog last night. I can barely put weight on my damn heel today. What the hell!!!!!!!! I don't know what I am going to do at this point. If I can't exercise and my diet continues to be a failure I am going to need a gertle and a pliers for this wedding. Rant, rant rant. Next post promises to be more positive. My glass is feeling empty today.

I started to practice Yoga during my 1st pregnancy at a wonderful studio (Big Bend Yoga) that was recommended by a co-worker, and I absolutely loved every moment of it. I have always liked to exercise, but have never experienced the euphoria that can come from a good Yoga practice.

For some strange reason I only practiced Yoga during my pregnancies. Even I find that a little strange, seeing that I loved it so much. One hurdle of maintaining a continuous practice of anything now is "kids", or so that is the excuse I commonly use. I recently decided to start up again and do something that is just for me! I think the reason I haven't done it before now is having a feeling of guilt leaving my children with my husband. My husband is a passionate soccer coach and player and that can sometimes be very time consuming. Why should I feel guilty when this actually evens the playing field? Yes, pun intended there.

I started practicing again at a really great place close to my home (Dragon Fly Health Spa). The instructors are great, the classes are convenient and BONUS........I talked my little sister into joining with me! Doing something positive for my mind and body is one of the most rewarding things. I urge all who can to try Yoga. And, I don't mean buy a DVD and a mat and have distracting sounds and people around you in the living room.......I mean take a "real" Yoga class at an "actual" Yoga studio. This makes a BIG difference, I have done both.

I love it so much, I have even contemplated becoming a Yoga instructor. I'll let you know when I open my studio ~*WINK*~ Don't hold your breath...............
